Is Your Child’s Birthday Your “Alive Day”?

My Mother’s Day tribute to the Tribe of Wounded Warrior Mothers is now online in PDF format. The essay, entitled Alive Day is here in the May issue of ParentWise Austin magazine, on page 10.

Alive Day is a term coined by the military to honor a soldier’s escape from near death. For some women, their child’s birthday is their Alive Day.

I’ve received many lovely comments from fellow Tribe members on this article, and I hope it gives you a way to talk about and bear witness to your own experiences.

Thank you for sharing your stories with me; it’s truly an honor.
